Self-Love Affirmations

Hello everyone! I am sorry for the lack of posts these past two weeks. My boyfriend and I are getting ready to leave these mountains and move back to the city next month. We are both looking forward to this next chapter together, but we’re feeling a little overwhelmed at all we have to get done. The pressure of the move, trying to stay consistent on this blog, cleaning, working, studying interior design… I’ve got a lot on my plate, just like anyone else. However, I struggle with “negative self talk.” I always expect a lot from myself. My To Do List for the day is sometimes more than I can handle. When I don’t get something done, I beat myself up for it at times, thinking negative thoughts towards myself that are damaging and hurtful. I ignore the hard work I have done and don’t give myself a break. I know I’m not alone in this!

Sometimes, we set expectations way too high for ourselves. When we don’t meet those expectations, whatever they may be, we might think negative thoughts about ourselves, and those thoughts often become patterns. I’m a failure, I can’t do anything right, I never get anything done, I’m lazy, I’m not good enough, or other thoughts that are degrading or demotivating can become second nature if we tell them to ourselves often enough.

As my wonderful boyfriend often reminds me, these things are FAR from true and I’m the only one thinking them. In the moment though, it can be difficult to remember to take a deep breath and reevaluate the situation.

Remind yourself right now that if you are doing the best you can, setting goals and taking steps to achieve them, then you are always doing enough. It’s important to work hard and try your best, but the point of this life is to enjoy it, and we often put way too much pressure on ourselves to do more. This wild world throws enough at us, and you deserve to talk to yourself in a manner that is loving, respectful, and forgiving. It’s easier said then done of course, but by being gentle with yourself and taking it day by day, you can change your negative self talk patterns. One way to do this is using affirmations; statements that you can repeat to yourself, using them as reminders of self-love even in a hard moment. In honor of being kind to ourselves today and always, I have put the original post I was going to make on hold to talk about self love affirmations!

In order to help and serve others, we have to fill our own cup and tend to the health of our soul first. And that is where green, spiritual living really begins.

What Is an Affirmation?

An affirmation is essentially a statement of truth that you use to motivate you, boost your confidence, or lift your spirit. By repeating affirmations, you can train your brain to think and react more positively to things. Instead of telling yourself you’re not going to get the job you’re about to interview for, maybe try, “I deserve a great job, and today I find it.” Affirm it, envision it, believe it! Put it out in the universe and let it come back to you.

“The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can’t are both right.”

How to Use Affirmations

~ Affirmations are yours to use as you will. Get creative! Write it on a sticky note and put it on your bathroom mirror, or set the affirmation as a daily reminder on your phone. Focus on your affirmation as you enjoy your daily cup of coffee or tea. (or wine!)

~ When you start to put yourself down, replace that thought with a self love affirmation instead. Take deep breaths; remember you’re great and worth it!

“I love myself deeply, fully, and unconditionally.”
“I am doing my best, so I forgive my mistakes.”

~ Affirmations are important in yoga and meditation. Every time you find it hard to let go of your thoughts in yoga, or to stay in the present moment, try to focus on your affirmation while you take smooth, deep breaths. Or meditate on your affirmation, repeating it to yourself a few times throughout. Stay focused, bringing positive energy into your mind and releasing the negative thoughts.

~ Every time I write in my journal, I usually put an affirmation at the end so I can keep all the ones that mean the most to me in one place. (:
